Steve is a versatile guitarist with a diverse background in Jazz, Rock, Blues, and Classical guitar. He grew up in the midwest, working as a professional musician from an early age, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Guitar Performance from Moorhead State University and a Master’s Degree in Jazz Guitar Performance from Bowling Green State University. AT Bowling Green, he studied jazz with Chris Buzelli and classical guitar with Dr. Matthew Ardizzone. As a teacher, Steve has been a member of the guitar faculty of Moorhead State University, and taught both jazz guitar and general music courses at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio.
As a performer, Steve has worked professionally in a wide range of styles, ranging from blues trios, horn-based funk bands, big band jazz, jazz trios and quartets, jazz/fusion bands, and even a 10-piece Steely Dan tribute band. In 2009 his solo CD “Out Loud” caught the attention of Guitar Player Magazine and earned him a slot in their Guitar Superstar competition, where contestants performed original music for a panel of judges that included guitarists Steve Lukather and Jennifer Batten. Steve has also worked extensively as a pit orchestra musician, and has served as a guitarist for over fifty professional musical theatre productions.
